The Ascension of Jesus
THE ASCENSION OF JESUS

The Christian doctrine of the Ascension holds that Jesus' body ascended to heaven in the presence of his apostles following his resurrection, and that in heaven he sits at the Father's right hand. 
In the Letter to the Romans (c. 56-57), Paul describes Christ as in heaven and in the abyss,  the earliest Christian reference to Jesus in heaven. The most influential account of the Ascension, and the earliest, is in the Acts of the Apostles 1:1-11, where Jesus is taken up bodily into heaven forty days after his resurrection, as witnessed by his apostles.

Turn away from Sin
TURN AWAY FROM SIN

“Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel.”  This is the invitation we are given when we receive the ashes on Ash Wednesday.   The season of Lent therefore is a period of reflection where we acknowledge that we are sinners, take time to identify our sin, confess it, turn away from it and practice, to a greater degree, the living of the Gospel.

Meeting Disciples

I met a disciple of Jesus recently. It was a Saturday afternoon and, by chance, I happened to be in conversation with him. He told me of someone who had hurt him in the past and the dilemma he faced in knowing that he was going to meet this person again. What should he do? In his heart he knew that the right thing to do was to forgive but could he do it?
