The Pontifical Mission Society assists each and every one of the Catholic Churches mission diocese and territories to provide pastoral care and preach the Gospel effectively. The Society carries out this work during the entire year, but with greater intensity during the month of October. This month is regarded in all countries as the month of Universal Mission. The penultimate Sunday, proclaimed as World Mission Sunday is the high point of the month. A collection is taken up on this day for the propagation of the Faith.
Contributions for Mission Sunday in Ireland in 2007 amounted to 2,562, 840 Euro. The Archdiocese of Armagh contributed 145, 208 Euro of this sum. This money is used to build churches, orphanages, health clinics, pastoral centres and to support the work of many Lay catechists where there are few priests. The Diocesan Director is:
