Celebrating Family Life @ St. Patrick's Cathedral, Armagh
May 10 @ 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Jessie Jane McParland from Clady, Co Armagh is to join for the special evening of celebration for families in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh on Thursday 10 May at 7.30pm. The young girl shot to fame as a finalist in Britain’s Got Talent in 2015 and after missing out narrowly on a place in the finals, JJ was brought back as a favourite by public vote. She holds many martial arts titles and since Britain’s Got Talent, Jessie Jane has gone on to do numerous projects globally.

All families are encouraged to join for this special evening, as we come together to pray for all families and as part of the celebration, prayers will be offered for families in need and family members who are doing exams at this time of year.

All families are asked to bring a small picture of their family (post card size) and place it in the Sacred Space in the sanctuary of the Cathedral on the evening. These pictures will be pieced together to make a “Parish Family Collage” and it will hang in the Cathedral in the coming months and all of the families will be remembered in prayer as we continue to look forward to the World Meeting of Families.

Families will be given a ticket and a draw will be made for two families to attend the World Meeting of Families in August of this year. The music on the evening will be led by Malachi Cush and as part of the evening, Colleen Gribben, a young teacher in St Catherine’s College and coordinator of the Michaela Camp in Armagh will reflect on “the gift of family”. A special Rosary will also be given to all present and families are encouraged to make a special effort to join for what promises to be a special evening and a special invitation is extended to all young people.

Pictured are members of Armagh Parish Pastoral Council, Mr Gerard Devine (Teacher) and pupils from St Patrick’s Grammar School along with Malachi Cush who will lead the music and Colleen Gribben who will speak on the evening.  Also pictured is Fr Peter McAnenly, Administrator of Armagh Parish. All are encouraged to join for what promises to be a special evening.

Relics of Family of Saints to visit St Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh @ Armagh Cathedral
Aug 12 @ 11:00 am – Aug 13 @ 9:00 am

As we look forward to the World Meeting of Families, Relics of Saints Louis and Zelie Martin and their daughter, Saint Therese of Lisieux will visit St Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday 12 August 2018. The Relics will arrive at the Cathedral for the 11am Mass on that morning and they will leave at 9am on the morning of Monday 13 August. During that time, people will have an opportunity to come and venerate the Relics of the family that embodies what is best in family life and they offer a wonderful example of what a family can become.

St Therese of Lisieux, otherwise known as The Little Flower is one of the most popular saints in the history of the Church and Pope St Pius X called her “the greatest saint of modern times”. At a young age, she felt the call to religious life and at the age of fifteen, she became a nun and joined two of her older sisters in the cloistered Carmelite Community in Lisieux in Normandy. After nine years as a religious, she died at the young age of twenty four and she was canonised a saint in 1925. Her feast day is 1st October.

Three years ago, Pope Francis canonised her parents and they were the first spouses in the history of the Church to be canonised as a couple. We look forward to welcoming the Relics of this special family to St Patrick’s Cathedral and further details about the visit will be available in the coming weeks.

Prayer for the Family

Father in heaven, you called Saints Zelie and Louis Martin to holiness through their married life. You gave them as Mother and Father to St Therese of Lisieux. Through their intercession, we ask you to bless married couples, bless our children and grandchildren. Guide us as citizens to make the kind of decisions that will support family life. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. AMEN
