Adult Faith Formation

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom.”
Colossians 3:16

Through prayer, Scripture, catechesis, theological reflection and shared learning, adults are invited to explore their faith, ask honest questions and discover how the Gospel speaks to the realities of everyday life. Adult faith formation recognises that faith continues to grow throughout life and that people need opportunities to reflect, learn, pray and discern together.

The synodal process and the recent Diocesan Congress have both highlighted a strong desire for greater opportunities for adult faith formation across the Archdiocese. People have asked for accessible and welcoming spaces where they can deepen their knowledge of Scripture and Church teaching, grow in confidence in speaking about their faith, and receive support in passing faith on within families and parish communities.

Adult faith formation includes sacramental preparation, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, Scripture and prayer groups, parish-based learning, theological and pastoral formation, and the training of those who serve in parish and diocesan ministries. It also creates opportunities for people to listen to one another, discern the movement of the Holy Spirit and respond together to the needs of the Church and society.

The Archdiocese seeks to encourage and support a growing culture of lifelong formation, so that people of all ages can become confident, prayerful and active disciples who contribute fully to the life and mission of the Church.
