Priestly Ordination of Maciej Zacharek @ Armagh Cathedral

Priestly Ordination of

Maciej Zacharek

Redemptoris Mater House of Formation

Friday, 30 May 2014 at 4.00 pm

St Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh

On Friday, 30 May 2014 at 4.00 pm, Cardinal Seán Brady will ordain Maciej Zacharek to the Priesthood. This will be the first priestly ordination from Redemptoris Mater House of Formation, a new institution of the Archdiocese of Armagh, located in Dundalk. Maciej is 33 years old and originally comes from Wygoda, Poland. He is the youngest child of Władysław and Daniela and has three older brothers. He started his formation to the priesthood in the Redemptoris Mater Seminary in Washington D.C., but was asked to come to Ireland to help start the new House of Formation in Dundalk, by Cardinal Wuerl of Washington. He completed a Licence in Theology at Maynooth, directed by Bishop Leahy and is currently working towards a Doctorate in Theology there. After his diaconal ordination last November, Maciej was assigned to the Holy Redeemer Parish, Dundalk. As well as exercising his ministry in the parish, he has also been helping to minister to the Polish community in the Dundalk and Drogheda areas.

The House of Formation was founded in 2012 by Cardinal Brady to form priests, for the New Evangelisation, who are both diocesan and missionary. These vocations come from the Neocatechumenal Way which has been present at parish level in Ireland for the last 32 years and in the Archdiocese of Armagh for 10 years. This charism which emerged after Vatican II, aims to help parishioners discover more deeply the treasures of their baptism and to live as Christians in today’s society. One of the fruits of the deepening of the baptismal graces has been a flourishing of vocations to the priesthood. Saint John Paul II, who opened the first of these new seminaries in 1988, gave it the name Mother of our Redeemer (Redemptoris Mater in Latin), his favourite title of the Blessed Virgin Mary. There are now 100 such Redemptoris Mater seminaries and Houses of Formation throughout the world. Already almost 2,000 priests worldwide have been ordained for different dioceses from those houses.

The seminarians live in Dundalk. Fr. Giuseppe Pollio and Fr. Neil Xavier O’Donoghue are responsible for their formation. The young men travel to Maynooth for their philosophical and theological studies. A particular characteristic of the House of Formation is its internationality; apart from Maciej, there are nine other seminarians of seven different nationalities. Seven men are studying philosophy: Bartlomiej Kleczynski (23 years old) from Glogow, Poland; Callum Young (23) from London; Carlos Esteban (30) from Madrid, Spain; James Norney (20) from Belfast; Juan Jesus Gonzalez (22) from Jabugo, Spain; Stefano Colleluoli (21) from Atri, Italy and Tobia Roson (20) from Udine, Italy. The other two are studying theology: Jorge Roberto Yandun (30) from Quito, Ecuador and Joseph Rodriguez (28) from Dallas, U.S.A. When, please God, ordained, they will be incardinated into the Archdiocese of Armagh and serve in the parishes of the Archdiocese. They will also be available, at the discretion of the Archbishop of Armagh, to serve as missionaries, both in other parts of Ireland and internationally, thus allowing the Archdiocese to have a new missionary thrust, answering the Holy Father’s call for the New Evangelisation.

Church Music Summer School @ National Centre for Liturgy and the Irish Church Music Association, Maynooth
Jul 2 – Jul 6 all-day

As the year is progressing rapidly and summer is on the way – so too is the Summer School of the Irish Church Music Association.

This year we have changed the dates of the summer school and now it begins on Thursday  3 July and  ends on Sunday 6 July.  This is to facilitate all those people who cannot take time off from the workplace.  It is also an opportunity for choirs to take a free day from parish on the Sunday and come to Maynooth to celebrate in Word and Song the Lord’s Day with great joy and festivity.

We are launching out with new ventures – New Generation Youth Choir – young people will prepare through Song and Word a special prayer on the Saturday evening of the Summer School.  The Summer School will also address How do Parishes Pray when they do not have the celebration of Eucharist through input and celebrations of the Word.

The Irish Church Music Association is asking  for the support of each diocese in informing parishes, generating their interest and directing them to take up this opportunity for formation.

Magherafelt parish pilgrimage to Glenshane Forest Mass Rock
Jul 6 @ 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm

Glenshane Mass Rock

Join us on Sunday 6th July for the parish pilgrimage to Glenshane forest, where we will enjoy a beautiful ramble through the forest to the mass rock, where Fr Gates will celebrate Mass. Bring a picnic!

We will assemble at the Parish Centre at 10.30am and pool cars. We aim to leave most cars at the Ponderosa on the Glenshane pass, close to the start point of the walk, and drop people to the forest from there. The walk will require moderate fitness and is unfortunately not suitable for all abilities or for prams. A fit walker could do the walk in an hour each way so we will allow up to two hours each way for everyone. We estimate Mass should be starting by 1.30pm at the latest at the ‘Priests chair’.

Be prepared for the weather, bring suitable walking shoes for the forest floor, plenty of water, hopefully sunscreen(!) and perhaps something for midges. We look forward to seeing you for this wonderful experience which is part of the Parish Pastoral Council’s plan for Faith Development.

A Celebration of Song- Friday 22nd August @ 8pm-Craic Theatre, Coalisland

Workshop on Liturgical Music- Saturday 23rd August @ 11am- Church of the Holy Family, Coalisland.

On Friday 22nd of August at 8pm Fr Paul Byrne would like to invite you to a celebration of music and song led by the internationally acclaimed professional liturgical musician and composer, Mr Tom Kendzia.

Tom has over 30 recordings of liturgical and instrumental music including: ‘I, the Lord of Sea and Sky; Out of Darkness, Stand By Me and Taste & See. Tom has won the Unity Award on two occasions for his outstanding compositions in 2004 and 2007. His latest recordings include ‘Come To The Feast II’ and ‘Celtic Christmas’.

Tom has been in parish ministry since 1977 and has been music director in Christ the King Parish in Kingston, Rhode Island, USA. With his wife Mary Carol, he is the author of ‘I Like Being in Parish Ministry Music’ published by 23rd Publications.

Many of Tom’s compositions appear in well known hymn compilations and he is currently working on a number of new projects to be released in 2014. We are delighted that this gifted composer is taking time out from his busy schedule in Ireland to visit Coalisland and lead us in this celebration and workshop.

The workshop is for all those involved in liturgical music on a parish or school level. Tom will lead and prepare us in liturgical song old and new; and will offer musical direction on specific occasions such as weddings, funerals and other occasions in the church calendar. All of Tom’s suggestions should be useful to any parish/school choir and/or performer in the church setting.

An opportunity not be missed!
